2 lb. Bear Roast
1 Packet of Ranch Seasoning
1 Packet of Low Sodium Beef Gravy Mix
1 Packet of Italian Seasoning Mix
*** For a stronger flavor use a 1:1 ratio for seasoning packets to meat (3lbs = 3 packets of each seasoning) ***
1. Grab yourself a crockpot that will hold all your meat
2. Throw in a crockpot liner if you don’t want to extra dishes
3. Put meat, all seasoning packets, and about two cups of water into the crockpot
4. Cover and let cook on high for 6-8 hours (adding water as needed)
5. Once cooked through, shred apart and serve over noodles or homemade mashed potatoes
This is a go-to recipe for when I have a long day ahead of me but want to have a hot meal with little hassle. Not only is it super easy but it is almost fool proof. It goes great with any red meat but works especially well with bear. I’ll be honest, when Jay shot his bear just this past week; I was perplexed as to how I would cook it. But just like with any wild game, proper preparation of the meat is crucial! Lucky for me I have a relatively picky husband/butcher. So all the while I was prepping for my FIRST EVER Finley Bee show, he would be sitting right beside me cutting away at bear quarters. This way we could talk to each other and spend time together but both do something that needed to be done. Needless to say, I think we make a pretty good team! Jay lets me craft and I let him butcher meat in our living room, it’s a win-win!

Tips for this meal:
If you are still afraid you will taste the “bear grease” so many people often refer to, soak it in a milk bath overnight. Then rinse it off really well before placing it in the crockpot. It also may help you overcome the fears of bear meat by doing the one to one ratio as described above.
